The Dog Decompression Center

The Dog Decompression Center is a Low Stress Handling & Fear Free Sanctuary for very special dogs. 

Our residents are all at risk dogs/urgent/final chance shelter dogs who were put on euthanasia lists for biting and/or aggression - these very special individuals greatly appreciate Fear Free and Low Stress Handling practices.

We are located in Burson, California on 40 acres of secluded/private grasslands and rolling hills, practicing an organic, holistic, sustainable life, out here in Calaveras County, living with the local wildlife.

I was born with a lot of sensitivities and for most of my life I've had various difficulties with my health - as a result, I often wish and dream to simply be happy and comfortable in my own skin, to find peace in the present moment - this is something that I do my best to find for myself, and share with others, especially with very special shelter and rescue dogs.

We work hard to give struggling and misunderstood dogs an opportunity to decompress, so we can better learn about who they are as a unique individual in the present moment and do our best to meet their individual needs – the study of one!  

In our experience, the dogs who struggle the most in traditional shelter environments are often the most intelligent dogs - the dogs with the most emotions, feelings, and needs – the dogs with the most personality and character!  

We do our best to meet each dog's individual needs, also teaching functional life skills by providing guidance with Low Stress Handling and Fear Free practices, encouraging empowerment, developing good decision-making habits, and then we adopt out to the right families where we provide post adoption support.  

For our adoption process, we find humans who are accepting of the dog for the individual they are in the present moment – humans who make the commitment to provide guidance for their dog in this world built for humans, and commit to doing their best to meet their Canine Family Member's needs – to provide safety, and comfort, to be the stable base their dog can depend on!
